I love it when a project comes together nicely. This quilt top I made about 18 months ago and it has been sitting in a box ever since. What was I going to do with a small 22 strip brown jelly roll top? Every once in a while I would pull it out from its hiding please, make wild plans for it… and then… put I back in the box, just to forget about it again. While I was going through my unfinished projects I felt it was time to give this little guy a try again. I had been doing a lot of appliqué work as of recent, so I felt maybe that was the way to go with this little top. Stars it was! Everyone likes stars, Right? I wanted also to make this a quilt as neutral as possible. Since it was not going to be for me, or any clients, or anyone else I knew; A one off if you like.
I also felt this was a great project to test out the free-motion abilities of my big Janome machine. I had done little projects only on it, but this time… I wanted to work with something big and use that full 10″ throat. I love that it was easy to move about, easy to turn and the fact my machine can take thread cone! BONUS! Naturally there were a few snags here and there, as I was learning on it, each machine is different, but that just add to the charm of this little quilt.
I love the way my free motioning give the quilt a great texture. Making it feel more expensive, and weighted. I enjoy how the free motioning waves go through the very linear jelly roll strips. All in all I am pleased with the outcome of this one. I think I will post it on my east page soon
